Songphanburi Hotel

The pool was being renovated just as high season started. Service was bad, the staff didn’t speak English, and they acted like they didn’t want to work. Don’t trust the room photos. The air conditioning wasn’t cold, and there was no water pressure on the 6th floor. Breakfast was okay, with plenty of staff around. Why not in the evening? I’d stay once, but never again. Think twice.

I stayed one night in a room listed as standard, at the back of the hotel on the second floor, with no lift. The view was a concrete wasteland, and dead pigeons littered the area outside the window. Inside, the room smelled, the furniture was old, damaged, and dirty, and the window ledges clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Cheap, shiny polyester sheets covered the bed, and the divan valances were grubby and tatty. The bathroom walls and all the sanitary ware needed cleaning. Honestly, it was the worst hotel room I’ve ever had the misfortune to stay in.

Songphanburi is one of those old dame hotels that can be either a hit or a miss, and our stay had both good and bad parts. We spent three nights in a standard room. It was large, the mattress was decent, and it was reasonably clean apart from some odd stains on the bathroom walls. The staff were friendly and spoke some basic English. There’s plenty of parking, including covered spaces. The hotel sits off the main road, and we hoped that would keep out traffic noise, but it didn’t really. Everything else was perfect for the price. My only complaints are the toilet door and the WiFi.
