The Gun Hotel

Right in the heart of Surin, this hotel was a comfortable stay for a fair price. My room had everything I needed, including a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a fridge, and a spacious terrace. It was clean and quiet, and the bed was comfortable. I enjoyed staying here.

Once I was finally allowed into the room, the all-white interior gave it a clean feel. The toilet is bigger than average, and moving the AC evaporator from the patio to an overhead spot outside was a thoughtful touch. The room has an impressive number of outlets: eight in the room, two in the toilet, and two on the patio. There’s also one unused outlet behind the fridge and another near the ceiling for the router, making 14 altogether. Check-in is at 3pm, and arriving early costs 100 baht per hour. I’m not sure what the hotel gains by making people wait when cleaned rooms are available, though that’s not the front desk’s fault. Being more than three hours early or late counts as a full day. It rained yesterday, and today a box of plastic raincoats appeared in the lobby. They cost 25 baht and came in assorted colors. I bought a pack and decided to extend my stay. They’ve thought of everything.

Being close to the nightlife is handy when you want to go out, though the noise carries late into the night. The rooms are clean and nicely furnished, but they’re a bit small and there’s no view. The location is good in some ways and less so in others, and the price feels a little high for it. Still, it’s a good place to stay.

It’s a new, minimalist hotel in a great location. Everything works, and it’s clean, with pleasant staff. There aren’t many facilities, and there isn’t even a lobby, though you can buy a few basics like chips, pop, and beer.
