Ramada Resort by Wyndham Khao Lak

The room was just right, and I especially liked the pool bar and cocktails by the beach. Staff were wonderful, and the location is excellent for bars, restaurants, and markets. Fantastic stay all around. Can't wait to return.

For our first trip to Thailand, we spent the first week here in October 2025, and it set a high bar. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and hospitable, and we loved the spacious room, location, range of food, and especially the happy hour drinks. The all-inclusive package kept us busy and well fed, so leaving the resort was optional rather than necessary. There's a gym, spa, and daily activities. Some evenings had buffet dinners with live fire shows and traditional cultural dances. We also booked a romantic dinner package, and the setup made it a night to remember. Bang Niang Market is an easy walk, or you can use the bikes they provide for souvenir shopping. No other city we visited in Thailand over the following weeks matched the hospitality here. The food was mostly bland or bad. I ordered pad thai and it was inedible, the worst I've had. Breakfast was the one meal where the food was better. The kids menu was very Western, and when we asked for kids pad thai, we were told no. The TV had five German channels and no kids channels. The place didn't feel child friendly to us, more like a grumpy retirement village, and the quality didn't match the price. We were told our inclusions weren't valid on the first night, and they were only honoured after we pushed. The pool bar had no atmosphere, with bad music or none at all. The package included an hour of free-flow drinks, but we felt like inconvenient freeloaders. They kept the beer bucket behind the bar, made us use plastic cups instead of drinking from the bottles, and required us to return to the bar for each beer. The pool towel system was frustrating too. Towels were supposed to be replenished in our room, but they weren't, or there weren't enough. Reception told us to wait in the room when we asked, but the towels still didn't arrive. Staff weren't very friendly, though given most of the clientele, I don't blame them. Management seemed more occupied with responding to reviews than improving guests' experience in real time.

The pool and beach were lovely, and the breakfast buffet was the best I've had in a month of travelling in SE Asia. The rooms may be a little dated, but they were clean and worked perfectly well. What stood out most was the staff. From the check-in escort to the warm breakfast greetings and thoughtful housekeeping, everyone seemed sincerely glad to help. The driver taking us to the airport in the hotel van was especially professional, friendly, and courteous. Some resorts lay on the politeness so heavily it can feel fake or smothering, but that wasn't the case here. The smiles felt real, and people genuinely wanted to help. I don't often write reviews, but our stay was wonderful and I'm grateful to the Ramada Resort Khao Lok team. We'll definitely return on a future trip.
