The Haven Khao Lak

We loved being able to step straight onto the beach from the resort, and the warm sea was a lovely way to relax before dinner or after cocktail hour. Our package came with happy hour cocktails each evening from 4 pm to 6 pm. It became our daily ritual and a nice end to the day. Waking to birdsong in the lush gardens at The Haven Khao Lak felt like being in paradise, not just checking into a hotel. When we wanted a break from resort food, there were beach restaurants within walking distance. One favourite was Friendship Restaurant near the Mariot Resort. There’s another place just up the road from the resort on the main road.

The staff were excellent, super friendly and helpful, and the restaurant food was really good, including the buffet breakfast. There’s also good cheap food at a restaurant down the road, plus a little shop selling cheap beers, snacks and toiletries. This is a great hotel in Khao Lak, right on a private beach and away from main roads and crowds. There are no children under 12, which is great if you want a break from younger kids. Pool rooms are nice and private. The rooms could use a little renovation, and the bathrooms were a little dirty, but still perfectly acceptable.

The setting is beautiful, with a long stretch of coast and such clear water that you won't want to get out. The sunsets were like a work of art every day. Service was top-notch and the staff very polite. Wi-Fi worked excellently throughout the hotel, even on part of the beach. Breakfast was buffet style, while lunch and dinner could be ordered from a menu. On Fridays there was also a dinner buffet with live music. The huge, clean seawater pool was a joy, and our beds were very comfortable. The furniture was clean and the bathroom well equipped. We loved everything. We only meant to stay one night, but after an hour we were already at reception extending by another day. Our room was perfect, with a massive bed, great AC, a big shower and a terrace overlooking the pool. The service was amazing: drinks at the pool bar came with friendly attention and delicious cocktails, and the restaurant food was great, with great waiters. The beach is a one-minute walk away, with a direct view of the sun setting over the horizon. They offer different activities each day, and we tried Monday morning yoga on the beach. It was a great start before breakfast at the buffet. I couldn't pick out a bad thing. Great value for money.
