The AC worked well, there was no unpleasant smell, and sometimes they left coffee powder and drinking water. A staff member also offered us a ride into town, which we politely turned down. Those were the positives. Cleanliness was poor in both rooms. The first bathroom had toothpaste and other marks on the mirror and wall. There was no duvet cover on the blanket, despite one appearing in the Airbnb listing. The manager said it had a hygienic duvet built in. We moved to another room, where there was a regular duvet. About an hour later we happened to see the first room again, and a duvet had appeared on its blanket too. In the replacement room the mirror and bathroom walls were dirty as well. We’d already spent more than half an hour discussing it, so let it go, but the mirror smears remained even after cleaning on later days. There were lots of live and dead creatures inside, including lizards, bugs, and ants, and some were in the bed. The door didn’t shut tightly, and we even found a dried-up dead lizard between the mattress. The manager said no cleaning fee had been charged, despite having to clean multiple times. But a sign in the room offered a “please clean” option, which I assumed was included. There wasn’t a broom or anything similar for us to clean the room ourselves. The Airbnb description also gave the impression the bungalows were directly attached to a privately owned beach. In fact, it’s a few minutes’ walk away, in front of a nearby resort. The beach may be privately owned, but not by the host, and Airbnb guests can use it along with the resort guests. We contacted Airbnb support after worrying we might have found bedbugs on our last night. Thankfully, the bugs we documented weren’t identified as bedbugs. If they had been, we would of course have received a full refund. We got a partial refund instead. There may have been some misunderstandings due to cultural differences or the language barrier, but we felt the communication was dishonest, especially about the duvet. The host also said the beds were new, though the attached photos made us doubt that.
