Kohngai Cliff Beach (formely Chateau Hill Resort)

Snorkelling is easy here, just dive in from the northern end of the resort. The sea view is remarkable, and the restaurant was very good too. I had a relaxing stay, with kind, attentive staff and spacious rooms that were well maintained every day. I’d recommend this place to any traveller.

We spent three days on Koh Ngai, and getting to the resort was an adventure: first a speedboat with our luggage, then a longtail boat, since there are no roads on the island. The resort was much larger than I expected. Our room was near the top and had the best view of our whole trip. The balcony was large, and there was plenty of space for our things, though the room seemed a little dated. The staff were welcoming from the start. Two people helped us and our luggage off the boat and drove us to the room once it was ready. At reception we were greeted with cold tea, and the English was excellent. Everyone was very friendly. Breakfast was nice with a good variety. Dinner was okay, with decent Thai food but a simple, repetitive selection. Since meals were included, it was enough for our stay, though for longer visits I’d suggest ordering from the menu. It felt a little odd that anything could be charged to the room without me signing anything. It all worked out, but elsewhere we’ve usually received a receipt. Some room details could use attention: not all the light switches worked, the glass fronts had many fingerprints, and the shower and toilet were both behind the shower curtain. There were lovely stones and plants decorating the area in front of the bathroom, but that came at the expense of bathroom space. The keycard didn’t operate the main switch or air conditioning, so the electricity stayed on. A high-pitched noise also came each day for about one to two hours and disturbed the quiet. The pool area was clean and good, if a little old-fashioned, and the sunset from there was amazing. We didn’t swim at the resort’s beach because there was a lot of plastic and many pieces of glass washed ashore. It was beautiful to look at, with shallow light-blue water, though. For swimming, I’d walk five to ten minutes. The resort can’t control the debris, but it’s worth mentioning. Despite all those comments, the stay was unforgettable. The view and staff made it a very pleasant visit.

Snorkelling was awesome, and we also loved the pool up on the cliff. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially Thip, who made sure the kitchen prepared meals safely for my severe food allergy. Everything we ate was so good. We had an awesome stay!

The Thai massages from Whan were the best we had in Thailand, and the setting for them couldn’t be beat. It was an unforgettable experience. The location and views were amazing too, but what made us feel at home were Youth, Sue, Tip, Wainjorty, Phoshu, and the rest of the staff. We had such a wonderful time in November. Highly recommend!
