The Goose Cafe & Hostel

The common room was a nice place to relax, with big bean bags and cushioned benches. There's also a cafe attached, and it had some of the best WiFi I found at cafes in Ubon. I stayed four nights at this clean hostel, which has a laid-back feel and is within walking distance of a lively night market with great street food.

The women at the front desk were friendly, but couldn't speak English. The cafe was very expensive for what it offered. In my room, I found a caterpillar about 8 cm long on the floor, and there were mosquitoes everywhere with no net or way to hang one. The sheets were stained, and the bathroom had lots of hair that wasn't mine. Too bad, but I really can't recommend this hostel.

The dorm costs 290 baht a night, and the coffee is expensive. For that price, the bathroom door is broken, one fan doesn't work, the bed is really uncomfortable, and there's no air conditioning. You can find a much better private room in Ubon for 200-300 baht.

A relaxed, pleasant cafe with lots of drinks at fair prices. Big, the owner, is kind and helpful. He also runs a farmstay beside Sam Phan Bok, Thailand's Grand Canyon.
