Tonkoon Hotel

We were exhausted and needed two rooms, so after the taxi driver spoke with reception and the fare from the airport jumped from 450 to 900, we agreed. It wasn't a huge amount in the end, but that felt like a taxi scam. Add the lack of soap, drinking water and a hot shower, plus paper-thin doors where you could hear everyone on the floor breathing, and it was emotionally draining. It's an old, unpleasant place. Definitely not recommended. We stayed at the nearby White Hotel the following night for the same 900 baht. It was new, quiet, clean, and a much higher standard.

The Wi-Fi was decent, and there’s a 7-11 right across the street. That was about the only good thing for me. This place felt almost uncomfortable and in really bad shape. The room wasn't ready despite the hotel being mostly empty. There was a missing light and the other lights didn't work, the windows were dirty, the furniture and linens were old, and the towels smelled bad. The soap dispenser was broken, the hallway carpet looked like it might be original, the safe's batteries were corroded and it didn't work, and the walls needed paint. You can tell they went cheap on the amenities. I know standards vary by country, city, and town, but this hotel badly needs updating to feel modern.

The place smells of cigarette smoke and feels very old. There’s no restaurant nearby, though there is an Amezon cafe and a 7-11. The staff are nice and offer guests suggestions.

At first glance the hotel seemed clean, but a closer look showed it was dirty. My main issue was the extra half day I paid for on the evening I checked in. They kept asking when I would check out, and when I explained that I had paid for the extra time, they said I hadn't. I insisted that I had. If you stay here, get a receipt for every payment.
