Mai Morn Bungalow

We paid for a specific room arrangement and asked politely about it, but the staff acted as if we were being difficult and demanding. At first, four reception staff were chatting among themselves, and I had to walk up and say hello before anyone paid attention. They had also assigned the wrong room, and the AC wasn't working when we first went in. I reported it in Thai, but the staff seemed confused and said they had no idea. We couldn't get back into the room until 7 pm. Later, we overheard them calling me a difficult, overly demanding guest for asking for what I'd paid for. The service was horrible and unprofessional, nowhere near what I'd expect from a four-star hotel. The room was spacious, but the AC filter was full of dust and the bed was rock hard. Our first agreed room was Pool View, and it was very loud, with kids playing outside until 10 pm and people drinking in the yard beside it. There was no parking close by. The restaurant next door takes up space, and the parking is far off on the other side in a pitch-dark area. The location is chaotic, though central enough for Phuket, if you don't mind spending a night beside a cemetery. The grounds look big and nice in pictures, but further down by the little pond there's a huge burial area, possibly for the owner's ancestors. Kids might be fine here, but the place was subpar for us. I'd never recommend it. The Songkran price was good, though, so think carefully before booking.

The garden is nicely kept, and the pool was pleasant. I also liked seeing the animals there, though they got very noisy at night. Those were the better parts of our stay. The room didn't feel up to a four-star standard. There was no shower curtain, mosquitoes and other insects got inside, and the bed was extremely hard. Staff, especially at reception, were cold and offered only the bare minimum of help. We also rented a scooter through the hotel, but it was in poor shape and they refused to replace it after we raised the problem. The location is quite far from Phuket and poorly connected. There isn't breakfast either. For the price and advertised standard, the stay was disappointing.

We got lucky booking just a day ahead during peak season, even with the island packed and EDC / circoloco going on, Mai Morn Resort still had rooms. Their hospitality made a real difference: the staff were always helpful and accommodating, and they even stored our luggage for three days while we went to Bangkok. That made the trip much easier. Really grateful for the service, and I'd highly recommend staying here on the island.

The road noise never really lets up, and the nearby restaurant stays open late. At the back, the peacocks, geese, and ducks make noise day and night too, so this isn't a quiet place. Returning pool towels is a hassle. You have to take them back yourself, and there's a 500 THB charge for each one if you don't. Nobody told me about that when I picked them up. There's also supposedly a 500 THB fine for improper swimwear, but people wear whatever they like and no one gets penalized. Staff said they don't have anyone checking, so what's the point of the rule? In all the places I've stayed, I haven't encountered reception service with such a poor attitude. The older staff member seemed completely indifferent and showed no hospitality. I definitely won't stay here again.
