Royal Karthago Resort & Thalasso

Our family room worked perfectly: one huge bed for my wife and me, plus two doubles for my teenage sons, much better than sofa beds. There was plenty of food to choose from, and it was adequate. The resort was well kept and well equipped, and we had a lovely stay. The animation team was very active, with lots of activities to join if that's your thing.

We had the best time here. The staff were so lovely, especially the animation team. Go have a chat and a giggle with Chaima 🩷 I'd highly recommend staying here :)

After a long day of travel, we arrived to find our room wasn't ready. Nobody had warned us or given a reasonable explanation. We were told to leave our bags in the main reception area, unsecured and open to anyone, and go get food. When we came back, they put us in a room we hadn't booked. The receptionist dismissively said we were “lucky” they weren't charging us for it, as though we should be grateful for the mix-up. The bedding in that room was stained and unhygienic. The next day we tried to move to the garden-view room we'd booked, but again it wasn't ready. When we were finally moved, the room was small and uncomfortable, more like a garden shed than the advertised garden view. Food was another serious problem. At breakfast, there was nothing remotely edible, and the selection seemed limited to local tastes, with no effort to offer variety for international guests. We tried it anyway and found a chicken breast raw in the middle and stuffed with an unidentifiable cheese, plus a burger still frozen and completely uncooked. That's a serious food safety concern. By the pool, entertainment staff kept pressuring us all day to join activities, book excursions, or dance, even after we clearly said we weren't interested. At dinner, a staff member scolded us for sitting at a table for four. There were no two-person tables available indoors, and it was over 42°C outside, so that felt entirely unreasonable and uncomfortable. The last straw was a poolside dart game. With no warning or signs, a staff member started throwing real darts just inches from our feet while we were sitting there. When we raised our concern, she rudely said, “This is where we play darts, move.” It was disrespectful and dangerous. We booked Royal Karthago Resort & Thalasso expecting a relaxing holiday, but this was one of the worst we've had. Poor communication, unacceptable room conditions, unsafe food, intrusive entertainment staff, and discourteous employees left us deeply disappointed and frustrated. We expect a full investigation and an appropriate resolution or compensation for the treatment and conditions we experienced.

The beach was dirty, and the beach bar was awful, with poor drinks served in old, ugly plastic cups. The food was almost okay, but simple and repetitive. My wife got strep throat, and we hadn't eaten or drunk anywhere else. Our room was poor too: dirty water came up in the bathtub when people showered on the floor above. The animators seemed bored and like they had no interest in doing anything. This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, and I'll never go back.
