Hotel Bel Azur Thalasso & Bungalows

Just got back from seven nights and we'd definitely go again. The staff were excellent, apart from one evening bar worker who was miserable. Simon from the entertainment team was brilliant, friendly and welcoming, and made a real connection with the guests. The one downside was the bathroom not being cleaned every day. There were little bugs still there after it had supposedly been cleaned.

Omar at reception deserves a special mention. He was kind, professional, always smiling, and went out of his way to make sure everything was right and help whenever we needed it. The whole team helped make the stay smooth and enjoyable. Bel Azure Hotel is clean and comfortable, with a welcoming feel and a good location. I had a wonderful time and would gladly come back. Highly recommend Bel Azure Hotel.

The room was otherwise okay, but there was a cockroach in the bathroom. My first welcome was unpleasant too, as the woman at reception seemed rude and angry, though the other staff were lovely and attentive. The food was bland and repetitive, mostly Tunisian salad and condiments. When the restaurant closed, there was nothing available as a snack, so you had to wait or time your meals carefully. Service at the bar took ages, even though the one staff member there was very good. I came back after four nights. It was an alright hotel, but definitely not four-star. And if your travel agent is Sabri, avoid him!

The private beach and location were amazing, and we had a great week overall. The staff were so kind and helpful, even during Ramadan, and worked incredibly hard. The animation team, including Simon and Zizou, were fun and welcoming. We joined the Zumba, Arabic lesson, and cooking lesson, and there were games and music in the evenings. The all-inclusive drinks selection was good. There was plenty to eat, with Tunisian dishes alongside pasta, pizza, crêpes, fruit, cheeses, soups, pastries, meat, eggs, and more. One evening, we could have a five-course Tunisian or Italian a la carte meal at the neighbouring hotel, depending on the day. Food was good. The hotel was lovely, though it could have been cleaner in places. Our room was around 20° and the AC didn't work. I'm not sure if that was because of the time of year. Towels were changed, beds made, and floors cleaned daily. When we asked reception for an extra towel and pillow, they brought them to our door without a problem. The two women at reception were great, helping us get a taxi to the Medina and a private taxi for the day to Tunis, Carthage, and Sidi Bou Saïd for 300dr total. Habib, the shortish man in a leather jacket who looks a bit shady, is completely legit. He offers quad biking and camel rides. We went quad biking for 125dr each, which was amazing, riding through the olive trees and a beautiful rural area.
