Hasdrubal Thalassa & SPA Hammamet

Dinner was pretty good, and the staff were generally pleasant. But in winter the corridors and reception were very cold, the indoor pool wasn't warm enough, and breakfast was average. For a hotel of this standard, the winter experience didn't meet expectations. A mixed stay.

I didn't expect to find hotels of this quality in Tunisia. Sitting outside by the pool sometimes felt like being in Mauritius, and inside, the architecture reminded me of southern Spain. The food and staff were great, and security too. It's a lovely place to relax and have some time to myself. No need to travel all the way to Asia and Africa for good weather and service. I hope they keep it up.

We decided we won't return. What really damaged our trust was finding cockroaches in our room during last year's stay. They moved us, but offered no real apology or gesture for the trouble. We've received even a complimentary dinner or a S.p.A. for much smaller issues at other hotels, so it felt like they took this lightly. We also had other problems on that trip. Waiters kept coming to our table every couple of minutes to refill water, mixing sparkling and still even when the glass was full. It felt like unnecessary attention meant to get a tip, and we ended up eating outside the hotel. They also charged us for the buffet for our 3-year-old, though we told the waiter he hadn't eaten anything except a small piece of bread we gave him ourselves. He didn't want the hotel food, and throughout the holiday he barely ate beyond breakfast and a few biscuits. Nobody took that into account. Our first stay, two years earlier, had been excellent, but after these experiences we've lost the trust and appreciation we once had for the hotel. The lack of genuine care, especially over cockroaches in a room, left us with a very negative impression.

We were at the beach bar, not the hotel. Even after we paid and ordered drinks, the staff member serving us was rude. There are about a hundred other places just like it a short walk away. Skip this place if you want to enjoy the beach. They should treat people better.
