Dar Lola

The building and its location right in the middle of Houmt Souk felt almost otherworldly, and the breakfast each day kept us full. My brother and I stayed at Dar Lola twice while touring Tunisia, and both visits were wonderful. The wash facilities in the room were lovely, too. What stood out most was the staff. Everyone was friendly despite the language barrier, and Samia went above and beyond when we had a medical emergency. We'd recommend Dar Lola and its amazing staff without hesitation.

The rooftop terrace is a lovely place to catch both sunrise and sunset, and breakfast was plentiful. Shula, the hostess, was so sweet and accommodating, always going the extra mile. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, and the Dar is cute and cozy, right in the middle of the souq. Good value for the price, too. The water gets nice and hot.

The central location in Houmt Souq made it easy to get around, and the rooftop has a nice view. Just be careful with the restaurant next door: the chicken I ordered there was undercooked. We stayed three nights in December. The owners were kind, and although they spoke little English, we managed with a translation app. There's also a cute cat called Suzy. Our room initially had no working hot water or air conditioner, but the owner moved us the next day and the rest of the stay was very nice. All the rooms are on the second floor, so there is no elevator.

The house was spotless, right down to the smallest details. We chose Dar Lola after a bad experience elsewhere with hygiene, and the cleanliness here more than made up for it. Samia and Chahla made us feel at home straight away, as though we'd known them for ages. We planned to stay a few nights, ended up staying three times longer than expected, and found it hard to leave. Thank you, Chahla and Samia. Mariem et Rami.
