Hotel Bougainvillier Djerba

The pool was lovely, and the hotel is clean, well kept, and in a good location. The restaurant staff were friendly too. Still, it was hard to get comfortable. The air conditioning was off even though it was over 30°C, and there was no fridge or complimentary water. Bottled water for sale warmed up quickly in the heat. Wi-Fi didn't reach the room, and a receptionist was unpleasant and didn't offer to help with our luggage. Such a shame.

After finding the other hotels we visited overcrowded and unwelcoming, we ended up here by chance. What a lovely surprise. The whole place is charming, beautifully decorated, and the staff made us feel welcome. Our room was perfect, and we liked the food and facilities too. I'd highly recommend it if you're visiting Djerba!

The pool bar bartender would only take cash, which was inconvenient and didn't feel professional. Check-in was worse, though: reception couldn't handle the bookings, so we waited in the lobby for over an hour with no air conditioning while it was 40°C outside. Staff were sarcastic and disrespectful toward guests throughout our stay.

The breakfast was far more generous than I expected, with fresh bread and pastries, eggs made to your choice, yogurt, and fruit. Our room was pleasant too, with a large comfortable bed, a built-in sofa like you see in stone houses, and a balcony with a table and chairs. The bathroom was spacious and clean, and it was cleaned daily. The only room issue was the Wi-Fi signal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, better than what I've had at some five-star hotels. They made us feel so welcome that I wanted to stay longer, which is rare for me. There are stylish, comfortable places to relax indoors or by the pool, plus a bar serving alcoholic drinks, local wine, and beer. Great value, and I had a really good time. I can't figure out why it's only rated three stars. It really sets a high bar for other hotels. Highly recommended.
