Maison du 18ème Siècle

The hosts were really welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and it was a nice place to stay. The house is quite old, so there's mostly cold water, and the wifi only works in the living room. The AC works, and there's a power outlet near the main bed. The bathroom isn't very nice.

The location was good and the price was reasonable. Being able to book early was really convenient. The place was quiet, and the owners were welcoming while still giving us privacy.

I came because I liked the history of this old house, but the owner's unfriendly welcome made me feel that my skin colour wasn't what she expected from someone coming from Canada. Then, in the middle of the night, I woke up with bites. I switched on the lights thinking there might be a mosquito, and saw bedbugs crawling around the bed. I packed up and left. When I raised it with the owner, she denied there was an infestation despite my proof and tried to blame me or other travellers' luggage. I had no bedbug problems after leaving, and found none in my clothes or bags. I have never had them and don't want to bring trouble to anyone. I also don't gaslight people. What an experience. I won't be coming to Tunisia again. People here in general are quite racist.

I was really glad to find this place. The central location is surprisingly peaceful, and my room felt like a special little gem. The hosts are extremely friendly. For anyone unhappy with the standards or how modern the hostel is, keep in mind it's an 18th-century old gem in Tunis, not Europe or the US, and it costs about 22 euros a night for two people. What could go wrong?
