Marigold Hotel

It's a clean, cozy hotel with spacious, well-equipped rooms and really good food. The staff are polite and helpful, and do what they can for you. Communication can be a little tricky since many service staff in Tunisia speak French rather than English. People also seem to work slowly here, maybe that's part of the culture 🧐.

The price was reasonable, which is why I'd give it 3/5. Breakfast was decent and the staff were friendly, but the stay wasn't anything to write home about. You quickly see that a four-star hotel here doesn't mean what you'd expect in Europe. Marigold was clean, had spacious rooms, and a 24-hour reception, but there were some glaring problems. After getting food poisoning in Tunisia, I needed more toilet paper. Reception passed along my request for two rolls to housekeeping, but only one arrived, and once the roll was used up it wasn't replaced. Each room does have a bidet, but I wasn't used to using one. Getting extra bottled water was another annoyance. After a long workday I got back at midnight, having forgotten to buy any, and was told they couldn't provide it because the bar closes at 10. With no nearby shops open then and tap water not potable, I wasn't happy about going to bed dehydrated.

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this hotel was. The service and everything else are very high quality, and the price feels fair for what you get. I can't think of anything that needs improvement.

I spent a week at Marigold and found it a pleasant place to stay. The location is fairly close to downtown, with a few good restaurants nearby. There's also a hotel restaurant, though it only offers a buffet. The rooms are spacious and have plenty of desk space if you need to work. Amenities are okay, but things like dental kits aren't provided, which I would expect from a hotel of this status. Breakfast starts at 6 a.m., but the bread often doesn't arrive until 6:45 at the earliest, so it doesn't really help if you're trying to eat early.
