Herwig made us feel welcome by name, always greeting us with a bright smile at the jetty, from arrival through every adventure until it was time to leave. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is truly memorable, and the location is fantastic. For outings, I’d recommend Swallows Cave and sunset at Port Maurelle. Whale swims are a must, and cave diving is memorable if you can fit it in. Our Vava’u trip was one for the books, with the resort’s comfort, luxury, and beauty playing a big part. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting the islands.

One morning we watched the sun rise from bed, and swimming with the whales was another unforgettable highlight. The rooms felt like a clean, cozy home, and Herwig and the whole team looked after us with thoughtful care. We were greeted by name with a big smile whenever we came back to the jetty, right up to saying goodbye. The food was the best we had on our South Pacific trip. I’m not exaggerating when I say the Austrian cheese dumplings were the best I’ve ever had in the southern hemisphere. We’ll remember Vava’u forever, and the resort’s comfort, luxury, and warm welcome are a big reason why. Dear Herwig, a big „malo!“ from all of us to you and the entire Reef Resort Team. We can’t recommend a visit enough.

We walked over from our boat anchored in port Maurelle and sat on the deck overlooking the water. The owner, Herwig, was extremely nice. Lunch was very good and beautifully presented, though pricey. We started with a small plate of curried chicken. Two of us had the pork open face ravioli, two chose the fresh fish of the day, and we shared the parrot fish ota Ika. They have a top rated chef. With a couple of beers, plan to spend at least $100 TOP per person for lunch.

Our five nights at Reef Resort were memorable, and we could happily have stayed longer. The generous hospitality, Philip's food, and incredible whale swims with Tongan Expeditions were the highlights. Prices are expensive, but things in Tonga aren’t cheap. We made good use of the complimentary standup paddle boards, snorkel gear, and book exchange. Thanks for hosting us, Herwig and staff!

Herwig is a gentleman, and such a generous, attentive host. He and the staff made our time in Tonga extra special. Chef Phillip also cooked some meals we’ll remember.
