Adana Hostel

I’m posting this now because I’ve realized how useful it is to hear about other people’s stays. It’s too long ago for Booking to recognize my reservation number and PIN, and I may add photos if I can find them. The person managing the place did keep contacting me and waited for us when we arrived close to midnight. That attention might feel intrusive to some, though. It was my first time in Türkiye, I didn’t speak the language, and I was travelling with my cousin and his son. We only slept in the bed and used the bathroom. It was August, and I was surprised there was no air conditioning, just a fan. The place also wasn’t well maintained.

I needed somewhere to spend a few hours and shower during a layover, but I’d avoid this place. The owner wouldn’t accept my Hostelworld reservation email and wanted to charge extra for a different room. He didn’t speak English or explain the 30% increase.

The building is filthy from top to bottom. There was a thick coat of dust in the rooms, with old olives left behind by previous guests. The kitchen smelled of mold, and I wouldn’t risk opening the dishwasher unless your vaccines are up to date. At least the dirt is consistent. The man running the place was disagreeable and dishonest. Twice, he said the dorm was unavailable and I’d have to pay extra for a private room, but when I reminded him I’d already booked and paid for the dorm, suddenly it was available. Every morning he’d come into the room and quietly take the air-conditioning remote. He did that without fail, which was almost funny to watch. Go ahead and stay if you want to test your immune system. Think you can handle it?

The owner made it clear he didn’t care about my confirmed booking. When I showed it to him, he said the room was already taken because someone else had arrived first. I asked how that could happen with a reservation, and he told me, “WOMEN, DONT TALK!” Then he said to come back later, maybe he’d find another hotel, otherwise no. I’d only come to Adana on the way to Gaziantep, deciding to explore the city instead, and arrived at this hostel on 22.07.24. The comment below from PINK TOUR IBRAHIM OGLU is the owner, by the way. Luckily, I found a very nice place nearby. This seems to be a tour agency with very dirty rooms as a side business. Avoid it if you respect yourself.
