Amasra Kristal Otel

After dark, we had to leave and look for somewhere else to stay. We'd booked a two-bedroom suite for four through Hotels.com, but at Kristal Butik Hotel the owner offered us only a cramped, smelly room with three beds. He'd made us pay in full before we could see it, then refused to refund us. He argued that the room was “good” and said we'd have to wait another hour for the one we had booked, though it was already past 8 pm. The man at the front desk showed no shame about the lack of hospitality or customer service. It was the worst hospitality experience I've had in Turkey, where most business owners have been extremely warm and accommodating.

The bathroom was very narrow and not very clean, and the room looked much smaller than the advertised photos suggested. We were told on the phone that breakfast was included, but on arrival he asked us to pay for it. He also changed his story several times about the room: he'd offered a spacious room for five over the phone, but what we got was cramped, with three beds and a sofa bed. There was barely any space for our luggage, and the open floor area was no more than about two square meters once the beds were in.

Despite all the bad reviews, it works for a small budget if you're staying in this pretty village.

It's a clean, convenient place in a good location. Breakfast was advertised, though, and wasn't provided, so we were told to go into town and buy our own.
