Sarikonak Boutique & SPA Hotel

This was an interesting 300-year-old house, set up for self-catering. The host was kind, and the location was good, within walking distance of safranbolu. The house could have been tidier in general.

We chose this hotel for a one-night family stay in December because the photos showed a lovely spa area. But when we arrived, the swimming pool wasn't operating and had been drained. The pool was the main reason we booked the most expensive hotel in Amasya, since the kids wanted to swim. We raised it with the desk manager, who said we were being given a discount because the pool was out of service. A night normally costs 170 euro, but we were charged 140 euro. Still, plenty of nice places in Amasya offer bed and breakfast for 50-60 euro, and at Sari Konak hotel we felt we got just that for 140 euro. Overpriced! The rooms were clean and breakfast was average. The gym had good machines and free weights, but it was cold, poorly maintained and badly lit, with no staff looking after guests. Maybe the service is better in summer, but our December off-season stay was disappointing. Three stars.

This restored boutique hotel keeps a real sense of history, and the rooms were clean. We also enjoyed a rich breakfast, while the manager, boss and staff were all very friendly. It's right in the city center by Yeşilırmak River, near Atatürk's and the other Ottoman Museums. A great experience. I strongly recommend it and plan to go again.

The staff were very friendly, and the rooms were clean and organized. I liked the hotel a lot, and the catering was very good and helpful. My only complaint was that one cup was dirty. Everything else was very nice.
