Özdemir Palas Hotel

The location is wonderful, and the staff were nice and helpful. But there wasn’t much service, and almost everything else was a problem. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear every sound from rooms on either side. We had trouble with hot water, and there were bugs in the bed. The bedding hadn’t been changed between guests. It’s a smoking hotel, and smoke came into our room through the air ducts and from people smoking in the hallway. The floors were grubby, the room surfaces dusty, and the curtains heavily coated in dust. The furniture looked like it might collapse.

The rooms were fine and clean, and breakfast was average, with not much choice in baked goods. The service, though, was really poor. Four days after we called to reserve one room with two separate beds, we arrived and were told that room was available for only one night. For the next night, we’d have to find another hotel or take a room with a king bed. Separate beds were the main reason I called instead of booking online. They acted like it was our problem to sort out and didn’t even try to apologize. They said a large group had reserved the whole hotel and they couldn’t inconvenience them by giving us the room we’d already booked. The next morning, they changed their answer and said we could stay in our room after all. I don’t think I’d choose this hotel again because they didn’t keep their word.

I felt safe staying here alone for two nights. The receptionists spoke English, were friendly and helpful, and took good care of our privacy. Breakfast wasn’t really to my taste, but the price felt very fair, so I’d stay here again.

I couldn’t sleep the first night because a customer was snoring, but the employees were kind and helpful. Mr. Gültekin did a lot for us and was always smiling. The place is clean, the prices are fair, and you can get some rest here.
