Hanımkız Konagi

This little boutique hotel is a hidden gem in Cappadocia. It’s right by the river and conveniently close to the area’s tourist sights. There’s a pottery experience next door, along with the Turkish night restaurant. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The owner is a lovely, helpful woman who pointed us toward good activities at the best prices.

Ms. Rahşan, the owner, is a wonderful, friendly person. She made us feel completely welcome, almost as if the hotel were our own. This is a special hotel and may not suit everyone. It has a lot of potential with a little more attention and care.

There are a few food and pottery shops nearby, plus a Starbucks and laundry within walking distance and a small tourist market down the road. The location felt a bit random to me. The room was okay, with an interesting concept, though some bathroom lights that should have worked didn’t. I’d pictured the traditional Turkish bath as a bubble bath, which was my misunderstanding. It’s actually a bowl of water that you pour over yourself. The Wi-Fi was decent, and the owner was very sweet and made a good omelette for breakfast.

Our lower-level cave room was clean and nice, with a modern bathroom and good Wi-Fi. Small bits of rock often fell from the ceiling, though, which could be a problem for anyone with respiratory issues. The hotel felt secure, even though the surrounding area wasn’t particularly nice. Food choices nearby seemed limited to greasy, terrible meat dishes. Breakfast was good and freshly made by the owner. For reference, I paid 350 TL for two people in August 2021. From what I overheard, guests in nearby rooms paid as much as 800, so be careful. The entrance stays locked, so knock loudly or call before getting the key.
