Akkan Beach Hotel

We were an Australian family of four and stayed three nights. The hotel is conveniently away from the noisy, touristy stretch of the main street, and the pool was nice. Breakfast was ample, with free cold water beside the juice dispenser. We also got a complimentary upgrade to a sea-view room with two bedrooms and a bathroom between them, which suited us well. Best of all, the beach is just across the road, with sun lounges and umbrellas provided. The place is a little run down, though. Several things in our room needed repairs: the handle came off the door, it wouldn't lock from inside without the key, the wall clock and aircon remote had no batteries, and the balcony screen door had a broken handle and loose fly wire. We asked for some things to be fixed and let the rest go. It was convenient, but could be much nicer if they did a lot of maintenance in the off-season.

The location is amazing and there's a lovely pool out front, but our room was among the dirtiest and darkest I've experienced in a hotel. The bathroom was the worst I've seen, with a lot of black mould. The price was the same as a good four-star hotel, and this place isn't close to that standard. Some rooms in the main building might be better than the one we were given. With more care and attention, it could be an amazing hotel, but we wouldn't stay again. I do wonder whether some high ratings come from people confusing this place with another nearby hotel also called Akkan. I've never seen a hotel so inaccurately represented by its good online ratings.

We paid 138 euro for two nights with breakfast, but the room was old and not very clean. It was on the third floor, with lots of stairs and no elevator. The aircon was very old and dusty, the toilet tiny, and there was a lot of dirt in the corners. The room Wi-Fi was a disaster, and they charged me 250 lira for a watery strawberry milkshake.

Halil is an amazing hotel manager. His customer service is better than what you get at Titanic Hotels, and he makes this hotel special. The view and location are great. If you want to explore real bodrum, look no further, the Turkish hospitality is genuine.
