Bertiz Bozcaada Hotel and Restaurant

We had an emergency during our stay, and the staff treated us with real kindness. They speak English fluently and made us feel welcome. The place itself is lovely. I still haven’t tried their famous wine, but maybe I’ll be back someday and give them another 5 stars for the hospitality and genuine experience.

For the prices they charge, the service had barely any professionalism. We really didn’t like the mojitos, but they refused to take them back or replace them. We asked to speak to a manager, and he couldn’t even be bothered to come over and see if he could help. Instead, he told the waiter he was busy. My salad wasn’t like the one shown on the menu either. They charged us for everything even though we didn’t enjoy any of it. Awful business in such an amazing bay!

We booked two rooms through Expedia, paid with an Amex card, and got confirmation within a few minutes. Then the hotel contacted us and asked us to call about changing the payment method, saying not to pay with Amex and to contact Expedia. We agreed, but while that was happening they cancelled our reservation. When we called again, the receptionist said there was some “system error” with Expedia and they’d fix it soon. An hour later, the price had gone up. That gives you another reason to think twice before planning a trip here, and consider who you’ll be dealing with. Unfortunately, that seems to be how they treat tourists.

The location and view are breathtaking, thanks to the natural setting. Everything the management had a hand in, though, was beyond awful. I booked two rooms through hotels.com, then asked to cancel one and add that night to the other. Management was understanding about the non-refundable reservations, and things seemed fine until we arrived. After that, it was worse than a nightmare. My boyfriend and I checked into a deluxe sea-view room at night, but there was no hot water. The next morning he spoke to reception, and they claimed this property had the best conditions on the island. Really? Is this a deserted island where hot water is a luxury in 2021? If I’d known, I would have stayed at camping facilities and paid one tenth. I work in front office at one of Istanbul’s most luxurious hotels. Apart from a few staff members, the people here should leave this industry. Tourism isn’t for you. So cheap and snobby.
