The spa’s thermal pool was cold when we went in. At reception, we were told that was because the weather was cold, then the pool attendant turned on the water heating so we could at least get in. Dinner was nice, but breakfast wasn’t worth paying for. Most of the staff were rude and completely uninterested, apart from the person by the pool. We’d booked a double room for one person by mistake. When we arrived, the hotel seemed almost empty, so we politely asked if there was a room facing away from the street. The room we got looked worn out, with uneven curtains, a broken chair and lamp, and dirt everywhere. The hotel seems unchanged since the 1980s. I have no idea why it’s called Thermal, or how it can still have 5 stars. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. If I hadn’t paid in advance, I would’ve walked straight out. I’d give it 0 points if I could.

The restaurant staff were nice and respectful, but I found the Turkish Bath staff rude and disrespectful. For the price, the services and accommodations were very poor quality. Our Turkish Coffee tasted bitter and wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re looking for a good time. I hurt myself on the slippery swimming pool ladder, and I’m still taking medication to recover.

My family and I came for a staycation, and the buffets were amazing. Dinner was over 200 tl per person in 7/2022, a bit pricey but absolutely worth it. I can’t recommend the food enough. Our room had a view of the pool and hamam, and the WiFi worked just fine. There are pools, a gym, separate women’s and men’s hamams, private family ones, massage rooms, and more. The hotel is just off Çekirge street, so it’s an easy walk to a pharmacy, supermarket, and ATM. It’s a lovely place for a staycation, or if you’re coming from abroad or out of town and want a hotel with character. It has a 60s/70s-meets-historical-Turkey feel, with lots of lovely healing services. If you’re expecting a fancy hotel, though, this isn’t it.

Getting there is straightforward: take bus no 96 directly from bursa terminal and get off at Eski kaplica, then walk about two minutes. The trip takes around 45 minutes. For the return, catch the same bus 96 from the stop where you got off. The fare was 16.5TL one way, and we tapped a Visa or Master credit card on board instead of buying a bursa card. We were charged 30euros more on arrival because we’d accidentally booked a double room for one person. If it had been just one person, we wouldn’t have booked a double room, so the night with spa ended up pretty expensive: 60pounds plus 30euro. I heard that using only the hamman and sauna costs 55 euros. The historic Turkish bath was a great experience, and I’d totally recommend it, but check how many people the booking is for. The spa space was gorgeous and mostly marble, with little copper hand buckets and perfect attention to detail. There were spacious rooms outside the hamman to rest after the spa and sauna, and we had chai for 25TL. I got a full body and head massage for 350TL. The masseuse worked quickly, but it was still good and I liked it. Our room was very good, though a bit old in the details. We were so happy to experience such a historic Turkish bath.

The thermal bath is the highlight, with beautiful historic facilities that feel like stepping back in time. The hotel seems old, though that may be part of its image. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. I’d recommend staying here if you want to experience the thermal bath in Bursa.
