We couldn't find a room at any of the hotels we checked during our three-day trip to Çanakkale, so we booked through sahibinden.com. Before we arrived, they asked us to send 2000 liras to an IBAN, which we did. We paid the rest in cash on arrival. They don't accept cards. Parking was impossible to find because of the location, and the neighborhood felt strange, so we used a paid lot. The room was so dirty that it's hard to describe; the photos show it. We thought we'd manage by cleaning the dirt ourselves since we'd be back before bed, but there was an awful cigarette smell. We mentioned it as soon as we entered and were told, "we cannot interfere with what people smoke in the room". Nobody offered to clean the room or move us. We kept the windows open, but the smell wouldn't go without a thorough cleaning. The next day, during a visit to the martyrs' cemetery, my 8-year-old son fell and hurt his foot. We said we wanted to check out and asked for a refund, but they said they absolutely don't give refunds and told us to take legal action :). Of course we'll complain to the relevant authorities and request an inspection. You can't run a place with this level of filth when people's health is at stake. My point is, don't go, ever. If you have no choice, bring personal items like duvet covers, pillowcases, and towels. We bought those, which helped us manage. We arrived late to sleep and left early, since it wasn't somewhere we could stay. It's hard to tell how dirty it is in the video they sent. They say they sent us a video and we accepted it, because when you want to go out.
