Antikhan Hotel

The location is fairly central to Izmir’s old town, close to the main attractions, though the area can be dirty and loud. There are better hotels nearby, especially if you’d rather not deal with the surroundings. Still, whatever the price, a hotel should meet basic hygiene standards. We found a cockroach and a slug in the bathroom, plus dirty floors and visible cobwebs. The air conditioning worked only now and then. Staff weren’t helpful when we raised these problems, and the room wasn’t cleaned or the breakfast replenished. The photo shows breakfast an hour before it was due to end. This may sound harsh given the price, but don’t stay here under any circumstances.

The staff were friendly and helpful, even though they didn’t really speak English, and reception was staffed 24/7. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed was okay, and it was quiet. Breakfast was fine for such a cheap price, and Cay was free all day. It’s close to the city center and Metro, though there’s a small, not-so-nice area nearby. For the price, this was better than I expected. I can recommend it.

The courtyard is a calm little oasis, with breakfast served there in the morning and tea and coffee available all day. For a peaceful room, ask for one facing the courtyard rather than the front, which can be quite busy. The location is great in Izmir, with restaurants nearby and the railway station and major sights within walking distance. The Agora is only two minutes away. This is an old historical hotel and could use a renovation, but that also helps keep it good value. The beds are comfortable. If you’re after modern luxury and new fixtures, look elsewhere. I booked two days and ended up staying four.

The location is convenient, near the bazaar and center, with the Metro and train close by. For one night, it’s okay. The hotel is old, and the furniture, smell, and canalization are too. The cleaning could be better, and so could the breakfast.
