Kargilos Hotel & Beach

The beach was the only good part of our week at Kargilos in July 2024. We traveled from Australia and came away very disappointed with the time and money spent. The property was badly run-down, with outdated facilities, worn beds, broken sunbeds, and far too few staff. Service was slow and rude, and the food fell well below what I'd consider acceptable for Turkish hospitality. It was a disaster overall, didn't live up to the hype, and I wouldn't recommend spending your time or money there.

Kargi is one of Datca's nicest bays, and the water is great for swimming. The place is cozy, but the service is slow and the food doesn't taste its best. We only went to the beach and restaurant, with a spending limit of 1.000 TL per person.

We weren't hotel guests, but visited the garden twice while staying in this part of Turkey. Beds were free if you spent at least 250tl per person. Their rules about who could stay where seemed a little vague, though they explained that only a limited number of beds were open to 'the public' so hotel guests would still be comfortable. Prices seemed quite fair compared with the many beach clubs we'd visited this season. I usually expect little from the kitchen at an average beachside place, but the peppersteak and chicken curry were surprisingly excellent, and the cocktails were tasty too. English can be a challenge here, but point to the menu and be kind and you'll manage. Most of the team will try to help. There's plenty of good parking on-site as well.

We had a good day and I'd definitely come back. The sea is crystal clear, though the beach is pebbly. Sunbeds right by the water are for hotel customers, while an open area inside has extra beds and seating, and gets more sun through the day. The food was good. There aren't any signature cocktails, but we liked the classic ones. The menu could use more variety, with only three pizza types. The four-cheese pizza had a lot of cheddar and only a little roquefort. It was tasty, but could be better. I also heard the manager, or someone like that, ask a waiter “who put them in here” while pointing to a customer in a nice spot, after someone who looked wealthy arrived. It sounded rude, since everyone has to pay a minimum amount per person regardless of status. I was surprised to hear it, because he'd been quite kind to the customer.
