The location and the view were among the best parts, and breakfast was decent, home-style food. The beds and linens were cleaner than at many hotels, too. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the room was comfortable enough with good air conditioning. But my third-floor room had a lot of problems. The fixtures were extremely old, and the bathroom had no shower stall or curtain, just an open shower area. Pipes ran through from other rooms, which made the bathroom feel odd. The beds creaked whenever anyone moved. The windows wouldn’t close properly, so I listened to the wind all night. There was also a high-pitched sound when water ran in another room, and I couldn’t work out where it came from. Something metal kept rattling in the wind, too, but I never found it.

The view is lovely, and the place has a comfortable, at-home feel. It’s easy to join tours of the martyrs’ memorials from here, and breakfast is served in a family-friendly setting. I’d recommend it.

The sea-facing rooms and natural surroundings make for a nice view, and the location is handy for the ferry terminal, the Martyrs' Memorials, and the fortifications. Even in April, the heating was on and the room felt very warm. Staff were attentive and friendly, breakfast was generous, and the linens were spotless. There’s Wi-Fi and cable TV in the room. A few things need attention: there’s no shower in the bathroom, the hairdryer didn’t work, some of the children’s spring mattresses were quite worn, and the very old room doors should be replaced. Still, why not?

Waking up to the view in my photo was a lovely start to the day. It’s an old building, but the rooms, beds, and linens were clean, and there was a good range of food at the buffet breakfast. Elvan Hanım even brought us tea. What more could we ask for?
