Papazlikhan Hotel

The road up was the one downside, and I hope the government gets around to working on it soon. At the hotel, there’s parking, a huge pool, and a terrace where breakfast comes with the same beautiful sea panorama you get from the hilltop. It’s a relaxing place to sit in the sun and take in the view. There were only three staff members, but they really looked after us and were available when we needed anything. Communicating in English was a little difficult, though Google Translate helped. A lovely, fancy hotel with a spectacular view.

The food is a big reason I’d recommend this place, along with the fresh air and quiet. I’m from this part of Turkey and can’t praise it enough if that’s what you’re after. The staff are very friendly and work hard to make guests comfortable. Papazlikhan sits above Altinoluk, and the steep climb takes a few minutes but feels worthwhile. The air is crisp and scented with pine and olive. From here, the Bay of Edremit looks fantastic, especially with the early summer light on the Aegean Sea. Every room faces the same way, since the other side is just mountain, and each is decorated individually. The collected decorations and some furniture give the place a distinctive feel, while the stone walls and local wood make the interiors cosy. It’s open in every season, but with so few rooms, it’s better to book early.

We found a place we’d love to visit every year. The host is great, and the view is magnificent.

The staff were amazing, and the hospitality was off the charts. They made us feel at home and took care of us so well. A wonderful place to stay.
