ShoeString Stone House

The room was spacious and lovely, and it actually looked like the online photos, which was unusual in the best way. We had a great time here with my partner. It was easy to walk to the main part of Goreme, with plenty of ATMs nearby. Breakfast was included and made for a good start to the day. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and seeing their cute dog each day was a treat.

There was plenty of room for us and our three children to move around. The furnishings were basic, and while the bathroom was okay, the walk-in shower was dusty and dirty. It seemed like nobody had used the room for a while. Our window looked out on a truck parking area, which wasn't a pleasant view. The location worked well for walking to food, shops, and attractions. We had a ride for our tour, so I can't say how long that would take. The owner or manager was helpful with information and let us leave our luggage at the office for a while after checkout. This is a standard hotel, nothing fancy, and we were given it as part of a tour package.

We had no water in the toilet or sink one night in the middle of the night. It also got loud from around 4am, with other guests and buses. The room itself was cute, but the parking lot and construction next door weren't much to look at. The hotel is an easy walk from the main town, restaurants, major viewpoints, and hiking trails. Breakfast was underwhelming and didn't begin until 8am, too late when people are up at 5am to watch the balloons. It looked as though you might be able to watch them from the breakfast room, but you can't. Otherwise, there were no major problems.

The location and staff really made a good impression on me. Everyone was friendly and ready with advice on tours and sightseeing, and the young man at reception was especially welcoming. That kind of greeting means a lot to a tourist and leaves a positive impression of the whole city. It was good value for the money. My wife particularly liked the breakfast, which had lots of fresh fruit.
