Metin's Gumusluk

The location worked really well, about a seven-minute walk to the beach, and breakfast each morning was a fantastic Turkish spread. The terrace views were beautiful and service was quick. For the price, it's a decent hotel, but the room cleanliness fell short, with stains on the sheets, walls, and bathroom. There was a bad drain smell, apparently a Bodrum issue; we covered the washroom drain with a shampoo bottle to deal with it. The washroom looked nicely renovated, though it still wasn't cleaned well. Two box springs pushed together kept sliding apart and made an uncomfortable bump in the bed. The pool wasn't well maintained, and nobody came to clean our room during the stay.

We'd eaten breakfast here many times with family and friends since we live nearby, and never had a problem before. This time, my husband and I came with our three children, ages 7, 6, and 2. The kids don't really like Turkish breakfast and usually just pick from our plates, so we don't waste food. We ordered three breakfasts, but only two arrived: two eggs, two borek, and two pişi. A helpful woman said she'd send out the missing breakfast, but it never came, so we got ready to leave. At the bill, we were charged 160 TL each for three breakfasts, plus 50 lira for water, which had been set on the table with the tea and bread. When we asked about paying for the third breakfast, the man serving us checked with the woman, who confirmed she'd requested the extra food. He said we could sort it out next time. There was no apology or offer of a refund, and we paid without getting one. It's the principle, not the money: we were charged for food we never ate, and we won't return or recommend the place to family or friends.

The bungalow-style rooms let in a lot of sound, and Gumusluk itself felt overrated to me. Still, the location is great, the pool is nice, and breakfast was okay. You won't miss much if you don't go there.

Bodrum was a place I absolutely loved, and the hotel and staff made the experience even better. I really enjoyed the delicious breakfast and the warm hospitality. I'd highly recommend staying here if you want to live by the sea.
