Hotel Aqua Marmaris

We booked through TUI and Hotel Aqua really lived up to its five-star rating. We went in April, right at the start of the season, when the air can be cool, so having a heated outdoor pool was amazing. The food was top quality, especially the pastry chef’s incredible work. We were impressed by the 24-hour bar, too, with imported international alcohol that we usually have to pay extra for in Turkey. On arrival we got welcome drinks, and the service kept getting better. Our room was spotless, cleaned daily with fresh towels, and the mini-fridge had a surprising range of treats: Fanta and Cola, sparkling and still water, chocolate bars and crisps. We’d never had that level of detail before. The whole place had a lovely atmosphere. Staff and vendors got along so well, from the gentleman at the local shop to the friendly team at the on-site jewelry shop and the amazing tattooist. Everyone was outgoing and welcoming, which made the stay feel special. We had an absolutely amazing time and will definitely return.

The pool and grounds were lovely, and drinks options were fine. The woman bringing morning coffee to the outside area was delightful, a real credit to the hotel. But this stay didn’t have the feel of the hotel that regulars rave about, especially so early in the season. There are better places around for less, and although Hotel Aqua could improve, I wouldn’t plan to return. Our room had a lovely view and was perfect in itself, but it wasn’t as clean as expected. The cleaner fixed that quickly. Fridge refills were hit and miss, though spot on when done properly, and towels weren’t always replaced, but a call got that sorted. Service was mixed. It felt like guests who tip or have returned for years got priority, and the hotel needs to build new clientele too. Reception could be offish, even borderline rude at times. Guest relations were much friendlier and easier to approach. Breakfast was consistently good, though none of our group liked the scrambled eggs. Lunch and dinner lacked variety and excitement, and the fresh fruit selection could be much better. We ended up preferring the snack bar for lunch and eating out in the evening. The entertainment was okay, but nothing stood out. It was upsetting to see a lifeguard put towels on multiple beds for regular guests on several days, leaving them unused for hours. Everyone in our group saw it, and another customer said you’re supposed to tip the lifeguard to secure beds. The salon guy also kept pestering us for business until it became a nuisance. We didn’t get even a glimpse of the glowing reviews from repeat guests. The food and service from some staff need attention. I hope this lovely hotel improves and thrives. Is it five-star? Not at all, though it could be with improvements. A five-star rating in this area doesn’t mean what some of us would expect.

The staff made me feel valued and looked after from start to finish. Everyone, from reception and the kitchen to the outdoor areas, spa and beach, went above and beyond. Anything I asked for, big or small, was handled quickly, kindly and professionally, and I left without a single complaint. The hotel and its staff have a personal feel, with lots of colour and cheerful energy. My room was clean, neat, comfortable and well cared for, and the whole place felt calm, warm and welcoming. There was loads of entertainment, and the food choice was amazing. I especially loved the iced coffee, and the waffles with Nutella and strawberries were fabulous. The Aqua Market Souvenir store is sizeable, with items priced conveniently and transparently. Great for families too. I’d definitely recommend a stay and will absolutely be back. The staff are what make this a fantastic hotel. They’re extremely helpful, attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Evening entertainment for adults is excellent, and the children’s entertainers are super friendly, with plenty of fun each day and night. The food is good, about 8.5/10, though it could use a bit more variety. The pool is now a comfortable temperature. The only small issue was the air con blowing hot air, but with the weather in the low 20s, we haven’t really needed it. We’d certainly come back.
