Navy Hotel

The cleaning staff were nice, and the hotel is near the beach and amenities. That was about all I liked. The place is worn out and needs a full refurbishment. My room was small, with old, tired furniture and a broken shower. I had to hold the shower head, and water kept filling the tray. The balcony was tiny, with two kitchen chairs, so there wasn't room to sit out. There was also an ashtray full of cigarette ends. The pool area was small and short on sunbeds. The karaoke bar next door stayed loud until 12.30. Inside, the furnishings were very old, and the brick posts in the dining area were broken. I was glad to go home and wouldn't recommend this hotel.

We were worried after reading the negative reviews, but our experience was really good. The location is hard to beat, with the beach, shops, main road and a supermarket around the corner. From the balcony, pool and cafeteria we could see the mountains and lovely Icmeler scenery. Our room was clean and pleasant, the toilet worked fine, and the room was cleaned thoroughly every day. The cleaners even organized our clothes and belongings, which was more than they needed to do. The air conditioning was free and worked well, and breakfast was fresh, tasty and plentiful. Everyone was super friendly, the pool was clean and comfortable, and the room equipment was in good shape. The only small drawbacks were water from the air conditioning spilling onto the balcony because the drain didn't catch it properly, and weak WiFi signal in the room. Neither bothered us much. If we come back to Icmeler, we'd probably choose navy hotel again.

The bar, waiting and reception staff were lovely, and the food I had as a B&B guest was very good with a decent variety. But the hotel was disgustingly filthy. The public toilet, right by the manager's office, smelled unbearable and was filthy. The walls and floors were dirty, with no toilet roll or hand towels for days. During my first week there was no cleaning service or fresh towels and bedding. Reception kept saying it would happen "tomorrow" when I asked, while housekeeping told me they prioritized rooms where guests were leaving. In the second week, the bedding and towels were changed every other day as expected. My room was tired too, with a dirty floor, windows and mirrors, plus broken balcony furniture. There was no separate toilet by the pool, so everyone had to use the inside public one, and there were plenty of slip hazards. The outdoor pool bar was closed. I was told Jet 2 had cut the staff in half, so perhaps that was behind the problems more generally. I feel this hotel may have passed its best and might not stay open much longer. 😔

The staff were friendly and the location was good, but I don't think the hotel deserves three stars. We'd stayed three years ago, when it was already tired and needed lots of updating, though it was clean. This time will be our last visit. The first room they showed us was an obvious no: the many trees blocked the sun from the balcony, and it was opposite the bar. We'd booked a pool-view superior room, and if that counted as superior, I dreaded to think what the others were like. We ended up on the ground floor opposite the restaurant, with a pool view, but the balcony felt like being in a fishbowl, so we didn't want to use it. Two stars might be closer to the mark.
