Bali Star City Hotel

The room felt bare, with no table or chairs, and looked more like a hospital room than the photos online. There wasn't complimentary water, coffee, or even cups. Safety was another concern: the old, loose door mechanism meant our room could be opened without an electric card. The halls were noisy at all hours, with footsteps and doors echoing, the stairs were steep, and the elevator was frequently out of service. I also lost my appetite for breakfast after learning it was prepared in the basement, where employees live. The breakfast was already poor. The night staff left a bad impression as well. They seemed careless and unprofessional, and communicating was difficult because of both the language barrier and their lack of basic manners and respect. I tried to be understanding, but the condition of the building, the service, and the attitude made that hard. The online photos give a very different impression from reality. I don't recommend staying here.

We had a view of broken windows in a long-abandoned building, and I got sick during my stay and remained sick the whole time. The rooms and building are very small, and the cleaning was awful. I found smashed glass on the floor, and nobody bothered to remove it. The workers had no understanding of English. It's relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend it.

On our later return, we weren't even allowed to check in. The night staff said the payment terminal “wasn't working” and refused to let us in, without trying to find a solution or showing any professionalism. It felt as if they were looking for a reason to avoid taking a card payment, perhaps to avoid receipts or taxes, but I can't know for sure. Either way, it was unacceptable. Our first stay had already been troubling. The night staff were unprofessional, and the rooms were uncomfortable and unlike the online photos. Learning that employees lived and cooked breakfast in the basement put me off the already disappointing breakfast. The place felt noisy and poorly maintained, with doors that barely locked, an elevator that was often broken, and empty rooms that looked like hospital wards. Between the poor hygiene, lack of service, and staff attitude, I can't recommend this hotel. The photos don't reflect the reality, and management doesn't seem to address even basic problems.

We booked a room with two single beds, but on arrival they said there were no rooms left and gave us this awful room instead. It was dirty, and they didn't have clean towels or bedsheets. They had to ask another hotel for sheets and towels. Terrible place, I wouldn't recommend it.
