Bunkahaus

The room was tidy and nice, though on the small side. I only stayed one night. The reception staff were welcoming and very professional. My one issue was the noise, since the hotel is so close to Taksim Square.

We left Bunkahaus in the middle of the night and had to find somewhere else to stay. In the first room, there were serious cleanliness problems, including a large live cockroach crawling on the wall. Staff removed it and offered us another room, but that one smelled strongly of damp and mold, so it wasn't acceptable either. We told the hotel staff about the bug right away. This was during our June 2025 stay, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences we've had. We felt unsafe and unwelcome, and the hotel refused to refund us. Agoda offered a 20% AgodaCash voucher that expired after six months. That didn't come close to making up for the stress and health concern, so we turned it down. Don't be taken in by the photos. The hygiene was poor, staff were unresponsive, and there was no accountability or regard for guest comfort and safety. There are much better places nearby. We'd never return.

The neighborhood is extremely noisy. There’s a mosque right behind the hotel, plus bars and discos all around, and you can hear all kinds of sounds. If you need a good night's sleep, this isn't the place, since I couldn't get any sleep at all. The staff were really kind and helpful, though. They kept checking what I needed and did their best to make me comfortable, and the rooms were super clean in every way.

The King Suite was a good size for up to two people, and the location made getting around easy. Taksim Mosque and Taksim Square were both just two minutes away, with good public transport nearby. I loved the Japanese theme, which felt different from other hotels, and the room was clean. Each evening, room service had tidied up and replaced the towels and toiletries. Mia and Bekram were especially friendly and helped me with everything. Their English was excellent, so communication was easy. They also arranged a SIM card at a great price and set it up for me, and sorted out taxi transfers for about half what regular drivers were trying to charge. I can't think of anything I disliked. This was one of the best hotels I've stayed at on my travels, and I'd happily come back to Istanbul. If staying around Taksim, I'd choose it over Sultan Ahmet in the Old City. The area felt nicer and more developed, with more shops, restaurants, cafes, and things to do. I'd recommend the hotel and rate it 10/10.
