This felt like a total scam. I booked Sultan Mansion a few days before arrival, but the property was an active construction site, not a hotel. They said there was 'no hot water' and used that as a reason to move guests to the inferior Xenia Hotel. One staff member even admitted the building was being renovated. The room I was given as an 'upgrade' was dirty, with visible mold on the walls and a moldy smell. The pictures make it look like a luxury stay, but that's not what I found.

The terrace was amazing, and the balconies gave us a chance to see the sea and enjoy the beautiful natural view. I stayed at Sultan Mansion with friends while we were in Istanbul, and by the end we were glad we'd chosen it. It was one of the best hotels I've stayed in, and very comfortable.

The location was great and the room was good. We paid for a cheap room, which sits below street level, but it was fine since the street is quiet anyway.

The room was clean and basic, but it was in the basement and had a slight mildew smell. We couldn't open the windows because they faced the street, and the shower was broken. We paid the same as guests in the other rooms. The shared kitchen upstairs has a kettle and microwave, and the only seating is outside. The views are nice when the weather cooperates. This feels like a two-star place, and there are nicer options in the area for less money.

The facilities were excellent, and the staff were always ready to help with a smile. I'd choose this hotel again if I travel to Turkey.
