Iconic Stone Houses

The manager really helped us out. We’d booked another nearby hotel, but it had closed; she tried contacting them, and when that didn’t work, we were able to stay here. It turned out much better than the other place would have been. The apartment and rooms were nice and really clean, though a few things were a bit old. Konak metro and the bus are within walking distance. The manager was very helpful and gave us lots of information about local places to eat. We’d stay here again when we return.

Getting up the hill from the tram station is steep, so guests with small children or mobility issues may want to plan on taking a taxi. Once you reach the top, though, there’s a gorgeous roof terrace with a wide view of the Gulf. These quirky flats have a vintage feel, are clean, and have everything you need, in a very cool old neighborhood that will probably get gentrified soon. The host was extremely helpful, with clear, detailed messages beforehand about the lockbox, transport, and where to find things nearby. He was also on-site when we needed help, and his English is really good.

The bathroom and toilet were dirty, even though the beds looked clean. There were tangled messes under the beds and furniture, and I didn’t even want to breathe in there. The house felt stuffy, with an intense musty smell, and the cleanliness seemed only superficial. The location is difficult too, on a very steep slope. I didn’t like it at all, wouldn’t choose it again, and can’t recommend it.

The sea view is lovely, and I have no complaints about the rental itself. The surrounding area, though, is completely unsuitable for a vacation. Access is challenging, with narrow streets and steep slopes, and parking is very difficult. You need to be a skilled driver. Given all that, the rental feels a bit overpriced.
