We had a spacious room and helpful staff, and they let us leave our luggage there for more than six hours after checking out in the morning. That meant we could take our Ephesus tour, pick up our bags, then head to Izmir airport. Breakfast wasn’t delicious enough for us, and it could have had more options.

The room and hallways looked neglected and somewhat dirty, as the pictures show, and the room quality fell short of what I expected from the booking app photos. Breakfast was served in a dining hall. It was a typical Turkish hotel breakfast, served neatly and cleanly. The staff were polite and helpful, and the hotel is in a very nice neighborhood, close to the city’s biggest market and within easy reach of the pier.

The staff were friendly, and breakfast was perfect. I liked this hotel!

I had the worst hotel stay of my life. I felt I was treated differently because I’m a foreigner. The receptionist gave me a room with a regular key, while my friends and the other guests had electronic card keys. The room was already open when I arrived. I asked for another one, but was told there were no rooms, even though my Turkish friend changed rooms three times. I’d already paid, so I felt stuck. The room was extremely dirty, and the door had no lock. I slept worried that someone could come in. The toilet flush wasn’t working, there was dirty water and shoe prints on the floor, nowhere to hang clothes while showering, and water ran while I showered. The bed linen, towels, pillows, and pillow covers were all very dirty, with hair on them. I used my own things to avoid microbes. The air conditioner didn’t work, so I spent a very cold night. In the morning I had to take all my belongings to breakfast. I couldn’t leave my phone and watch to charge because the door wouldn’t lock. The restaurant was in a closed room, and the food was very bad, so I ate outside. My friends also had room problems, though not as bad as mine. My room was number 509, and I have an invoice if they deny any of this. I don’t know how the hotel got four stars or any certificates, and doubt it deserves them. I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel.

The staff made a good impression on us. They were kind and ready to help throughout our stay at Madi Otel. Booking was easy, check-in went smoothly, and although the official time was 2 p.m., our room was ready early. We’d chosen the hotel for its proximity to the train station, since we planned to go to Selçuk the next day. It’s also near Konak for walking tours, though farther from the main bus terminal and other central spots. We first received the wrong room, despite having booked a double room with carpet. I told the front desk, and they quickly moved us to the right one. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was fine, but the ceiling leaked. Staff offered to move us again, but we’d already changed rooms once, so I stayed. By morning the leak had stopped, probably because of something in the room above. Breakfast was simple but decent. I can’t say whether there’s a pool or gym, since we didn’t need either. The price seemed a bit high for what you get, though I noticed hotels in Izmir are mostly a bit expensive. I’d still recommend Madi Otel for its location and helpful staff.
