Mövenpick Hotel Izmir

There’s a bar near the lobby, and the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and shops you can reach on foot. The location in Izmir is excellent. Service was good at reception, in the restaurant, at breakfast, and at the bar. The rooms are spacious, and some have a nice sea view. I recommend this Movenpick.

The curtains were dirty, and both the pillowcases and bathrobes were torn. Can at reception also tried to charge me six times for the minibar, assuming my card wasn’t working. I showed him in my ING app that I’d already paid, but he kept trying. The other staff members were friendly.

For work in Alsancak, I needed reliable, fast Wi-Fi for a video call. Mövenpick was the best connection I found. I measured more than 80 Mbps, and it stayed smooth and dependable. There’s an attached image showing the result. At the first hotel I tried, speeds were only about 4 Mbps and the connection kept dropping. I also checked the nearby Marriott, where it was a little better at 10-12 Mbps, but still not good enough for video calls. If you need solid internet for remote work, streaming, or video conferencing, Mövenpick worked really well for me.

The location is good, but the service and lack of clear communication made my stay stressful and disappointing. I’m an ALL Accor Gold Member, and I booked directly through the ALL Accor website with a credit card on file. The hotel contacted me on Sept 10 to welcome me and ask some questions, without mentioning that I needed to prepay. I had also entered an expected arrival time of 10-11pm local time because I was traveling internationally. Then on Sept 11, the day I was flying from the US and checking in, an email said my booking would be cancelled unless I paid in full by 6pm local time. As an international traveler, I could easily have missed that message. With my card already provided through ALL Accor, the last-minute ultimatum was unacceptable. Several service issues added to the frustration. Hotel-arranged taxis often complained about where they were going. One driver became aggressive and said, “I am not your hotel’s taxi driver,” which seemed like a coordination problem caused by the hotel. I had to repeat requests such as daily water several times. In my parents’ room, the TV remote didn’t work, and a promised replacement never came. Same-day dry cleaning was late, and the ironing was unprofessional, though I wasn’t charged for it. For a brand like Accor, this was far below what I expected. Loyal members shouldn’t have to worry about losing a reservation mid-flight, especially after booking directly through ALL Accor with a credit card on file.
