Hotel Marla

The location is excellent, and the room was large with a good bathroom. Having a bath as well as a shower was nice. We booked a double and confirmed it at check-in, but were still given twin beds. There was some noise now and then from the clubs across the street. Breakfast was underwhelming for us, though fine for the room rate, so we went to ACR instead. All in all, a decent stay at Marla.

The club across the street stayed open until 3 am on a Wednesday, and I could hear the music even from the seventh floor. The walls are thin, so if noise keeps you awake, avoid a room facing the main street. I'd read about this in other reviews but expected Wednesday to be quieter. The location is very good and the staff are friendly, though the hotel feels dated. You get what you pay for. For better rooms in the same neighborhood, you'd have to spend two or three times as much.

The front desk staff work really hard and deserve thanks. The staff were kind and friendly, and the room itself was spacious, clean, and nice. I’m a tourist from Russia and don’t speak the local language. Sleep was difficult on my first night because there’s no soundproofing. The walls feel like cardboard, and I could hear everything in the next room. It was also cold, and the air conditioner was very noisy without doing much to help. Breakfast disappointed me too. The women behind the counter paid no attention to my requests.

There are restaurants and grocery shops nearby, and Izmir clock tower and old bazaar are about a 10-minute walk away. The hotel’s location is ideal. The room was spacious, and the air conditioning was fantastic in the heat. The toilet was average and could be better. Staff speak reasonable English. Breakfast is basic and much the same every day, nothing extraordinary.
