Villa Kalamar

The breathtaking view is the only good thing I can say about this hotel. We found no proper management, housekeeping, customer service, or maintenance. Our room was small and full of biting flying insects. I must have killed 200 flies that night. We asked to move, but they couldn’t do it until the next morning after we made a fuss. The upgraded room had air conditioning that wasn’t cold enough, and even more insects, bigger and faster ones that were harder to kill. Housekeeping was the worst I’ve experienced. They didn’t even make the bed properly, and it was crooked. Breakfast was very limited. When I asked about fried eggs or an omelette, they just said no instead of explaining there’d be an extra charge. We ended up with only watermelon, and it wasn’t very fresh. The infinity pool looked beautiful in the photos but wasn’t clean when we saw it. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Other places around Kalkan have similarly breathtaking views and pay more attention to service and quality.

We had a terrible week here. The toilet was broken, there was no air conditioning in 38 degree heat, and power kept cutting out, so we couldn’t even get ready to get away from the place. These problems continued all week. Staff were very rude and made us feel like an inconvenience, with nobody willing to help. We paid for a double bed, but it was two single beds pushed together. If we’d known, we would have booked two singles and joined them ourselves. When we complained to the booking company, the hotel didn’t respond to them at all, which was rude and summed up the stay. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a nice hotel. I gave it one star, and even that feels generous.

We stayed at Kalamar Hotel for our honeymoon in October 2017, and the owner, Huseyin Bey, upgraded us to one of the best rooms after hearing the reason for our visit. The duplex room was comfortable, with a living room and shower downstairs, then an upstairs bedroom and balcony overlooking a spectacular view of the Mediterranean. We were made to feel very welcome by Ceylan and Kemal, and their conversations felt genuine. We both had a bad cold on arrival, and Erdogan Bey kindly sent a comforting meal to our room before the kitchen had even opened. He was friendly and helpful all through our stay, as were the rest of the staff. Our room was cleaned spotless every day, and the laundry service was super fast. Breakfast had lots of variety, and they made our omelette with whatever ingredients we wanted. Eating it by the Mediterranean view was lovely, though watch out for the bees. The staff also had helpful suggestions for places to see. We didn’t try the infinity pool because the weather was cool, but it looked great. We loved the stay and the views, and would recommend Kalamar Hotel.

We had a fabulous week at Kalamar, with wonderful sea views from the dining terrace and bar. It’s a little outside Kalkan, but taxis into town are easy and cost just 40 lira. Staff and owners were very welcoming and arranged our transfers and day trips. We loved the daily Turkish breakfast and pina coladas by the beautiful infinity pool. Rooms were clean, roomy, and nicely decorated, and staff were quick to respond when anything came up. There are lots of steps across the hotel’s levels, so you need a moderate level of fitness.
