Club Hotel Sunbel is in a beautiful location, but my stay from May 24-26, 2026 left me concerned about safety and management. I’m writing this as a warning because what happened was unacceptable. On the first night, a man in the room next to mine screamed violently and made extreme threats. I could clearly hear a woman crying and slapping sounds. It went on for more than 1.5 hours, and he shouted that he would "burn the hotel down." I told reception immediately that a woman was at serious risk. Staff briefly knocked on the door, then told me "everything is fine" and walked away while he continued shouting. I felt unsafe and got no support, so I left the hotel I had paid for. The next morning, Manager Serhat Sungur showed no concern for my wellbeing or the traumatic incident. He was defensive, interrupted me, and said the hotel could do nothing unless the victim, who was being attacked, filed a complaint. I believe this showed a serious failure of basic care and public safety. A hotel that cannot keep guests safe or respond to a clear, ongoing violent disturbance should not operate. The hotel has since posted an official reply to my review. I thank them for it because it confirms what I described rather than refuting it. They said staff visited the room, the occupants made no complaint, and the hotel had no legal authority to enter without clear evidence of a crime. That logic is dangerous. A woman being screamed at behind a closed door by a drunk, violently shouting man who threatens to burn down the hotel is obviously unlikely to complain in front of him because she may be afraid. Expecting a potential domestic violence victim to calmly come to the door and make a formal complaint while her abuser stands there is either naive or deliberately ignorant. No complaint under duress does not prove safety, it shows fear. The hotel claims it had no legal authority. Since then, I’ve confirmed that under Turkish law, Penal Code Art. 278-279 and Law No. 6284 on Violence Against Women, every citizen, especially a commercial establishment, has a duty to report an ongoing crime or threat to law enforcement. They didn’t need to enter the room. They needed to call the gendarmerie immediately and let professionals handle it. They failed to do that. Would the hotel also say it could do nothing if a guest were using drugs in their room and nobody complained? The answer seems obvious, they would act. Yet when there’s a woman behind a door with a violent man, they suddenly become powerless. And what about his direct threat to burn the hotel down? Were they waiting for an actual fire before taking it seriously? My safety and the safety of every other guest were already at risk from an out-of-control man shouting for hours and making arson threats. The hotel’s public reply speaks politely about guest safety being a priority and valuing guest opinions. In person, when I raised my concerns with Manager Serhat Sungur the next morning, he interrupted me and refused to listen. His exact words were, "I have been a hotel manager for 20 years. You cannot teach me my job." That dismissive, arrogant response felt like the real face of management. The written reply is for the public, while the treatment of a paying guest who had spent a traumatic night showed complete disregard.

The pool area and location were pleasant, and the rooms were clean. The staff were friendly, but the food was limited and dishes weren’t labelled, so we often couldn’t tell what we were eating. There was no menu for alcoholic drinks at the bar, making it hard to know what they offered. I’d give Hotel Sunbel about 3 stars. Dining brought the rating down, though some improvements could make for a much better stay.

The staff were consistently cheerful and helpful, and the animation team put on enjoyable nightly shows. They did repeat the shows during our second week. Direct beach access was convenient, too, but the property itself didn’t feel like a 4-star hotel. The focus on Russian tourists was hard to miss. Most music and staff communication were in Russian, which left us feeling a bit out of place. Our room was dated and worn, with what looked like mold cleaned off near the door. The food was fine, but getting a main dish meant arriving right at the start of service, since some guests hoarded food that ended up wasted. Finding a sunbed on the private beach was also a daily challenge because people left towels out from early morning. The exceptional staff were the best part, but I’d be willing to pay more for a better overall stay somewhere else.

The beach was nice and there were always sunbeds available. The snack bar was disappointing, serving the same things and not opening every day as you’d expect at an all-inclusive hotel. Food in the main dining room also got repetitive after about three days. It was generally okay, though they used quite a lot of semi-prepared products, and the dining area wasn’t very clean. We arrived at 1 a.m. to a room that was filthy. The toilet was very dirty, the shower was moldy, and there was hair and body hair from previous guests on the tiles. The sheets were stained. In the morning, I tried to get the cleaning lady to clean and showed her the toilet, but she didn’t understand, so I took her toilet cleaner and did it myself. She left the shower as it was. I asked to change rooms but was told none were available. Our friends had the same hygiene problems in their room, so I doubt moving would have helped. Most staff were good, apart from one man at reception who clearly couldn’t care less about us. Special thanks to the bar staff, who did what they could with the ingredients available. Still, everything felt dirty or sticky, with handprints and stains from unknown fluids. The hotel management should seriously rethink its 4-star rating. In Slovakia this place would be shut down or given no more than 2 stars.

The view from this small hotel is wonderful, and its location is attractive. The staff were very friendly, especially Ahmet, the best receptionist. I enjoyed the tasty food and trying all the Turkish specialties. I recommend it.
