The payment issue made us feel unsafe. Before booking, we were told we could pay by credit card, but at arrival the hotel said its POS machine was unavailable and insisted on cash. An argument followed, and we were threatened. There were four women and four children in our group. Hygiene was terrible throughout our stay in Mardin Artuklu. We found cockroaches in the rooms and shared areas, and the stained towels and linens were unusable. The breakfast was dirty and inadequate too: the plates and teacups weren't clean, there was no refrigerator, and the cheese and eggs were spoiled even though we visited in summer. The worst moment happened at breakfast. A child with a constantly runny nose wiped it, then kept serving food and plates without washing his hands. We saw this ourselves. Our holiday was completely ruined. This was a huge disappointment, and I strongly can't recommend the hotel for hygiene, service, or safety. What I'm describing is my own experience. I'd also seen similar complaints in earlier reviews, along with defensive replies that tried to make unhappy customers seem wrong or dishonest. Those responses don't change what happened to us. Hearing about the same problems from others makes this feel recurring, not like a one-off. I'm writing so other people can avoid the same hardship. Please look at real experiences before deciding.

The place was hard to reach, tucked into a remote corner of Mardin. From where we parked, we had to walk along a very narrow, dark road with no lights. Inside, there was dust everywhere, dirt and clay piled along the edges of the carpet, and a bed that felt like it might collapse. It was two mattresses pushed together with a sponge in the middle, and we woke up with sore backs. Before we came, someone on the phone, I think the owner, had praised the hotel, saying it was very clean, guests were happy, and breakfast was an open buffet. Once we arrived, though, we were told the POS machine was broken and cash was the only option. We were there with my family, including my 1.5-year-old daughter, and it was one of the worst hotel stays I've had. In the morning, only us and another couple were staying there. We went to breakfast but found nobody in the kitchen or anywhere at the hotel to help. We called the owner, who said a friend would come, but after waiting a long time, both families left without eating. So much for the promised buffet. The door was open, and hygiene was practically nonexistent. There wasn't anything good I could point to. Please read this before booking and don't waste your money.
