Raymar Hotels Mardin

We could hear everything in the morning because the walls barely block any noise. The cleaning started around 7, and it woke us up. The room had no ventilation, and with the AC running it got really cold. The little throw they provided wasn’t enough to cover two people. Our room was tiny. With both carry-ons open on the floor, there was no room to walk, and the towels smelled of smoke. We’d booked a non-smoking room, but the hallways and the rest of the hotel reeked like an ashtray. They claim smoking isn’t allowed, but the smell seeped into our room. Putting a towel along the floor was the only thing that helped. The location was decent, about 15 minutes from old Mardin’s main road. For $100 a night, I’d honestly look for somewhere in old Mardin instead.

The restaurant felt chaotic, and I found myself wondering about kitchen hygiene. The food was very average. The salad was already on the table when we sat down, so we ate it, then waited 10 minutes for the main course. Our room was sparsely furnished: no hangers, coffee cups, extra pillows, or chairs. The single bed was so narrow I had to be careful when turning over. The bedspread was stained, there were no covers, and the towels weren’t bright white. It was crowded enough that we waited five minutes in line for the elevator, even though we only stayed one night. I don’t understand how this place gets five stars. It didn’t come close, maybe three at most.

The receptionist’s attitude really shocked me. I’d booked a room that said breakfast was included, but when we arrived, the woman at the front desk denied it and said we’d have to pay extra. It felt like price gouging and wasn’t a welcoming experience for tourists. There are plenty of other places to stay, so I’d avoid this one.

It’s in a very good location in what we call New Mardin. The hotel is very clean, and there are restaurants too. You can tell the breakfast is good quality. The employees, managers, and boss know their work and make an effort to provide professional service.
