Şato Motel

Really good.

We’ve been coming to the Chateau on Marmara Island since I was a child, and it’s become a yearly tradition. The place feels safe and peaceful, and families like ours return year after year. People leave one another to enjoy their holidays, and the beach has a lovely sharing spirit. At first it’s surprising to see families offering treats to others, but then you understand how special that is. The Şato team greets us warmly every year, and staff at both the beach and hotel are friendly and quick to help if anything comes up. That kind of welcoming, intimate atmosphere is hard to find elsewhere. We want to thank everyone, especially Mr. Hamdi and his whole team. The hotel’s position is really handy, just a five-minute walk from the ferry, and having its own beach is a big plus. The rooms have air conditioning and a TV, but the sea view from the balcony is so lovely you won’t feel like turning it on. Nearby, there are tea gardens for sage tea, and little shops and stalls selling natural things like thyme and sage tea. They’re right there when you arrive, a warm welcome into the island’s spirit. The food is a big part of the pleasure too. There’s a rich dinner menu, with a satisfying range of tasty olive oil appetizers alongside the main dishes. During the day you can enjoy Turkish coffee on the beach, plus hot french fries and gözleme (Turkish flatbread), all affordable and tasting homemade. Watching the sunset as the moon rises, having breakfast with a bird’s-eye view of the sea, then dinner as the sun goes down, is hard to describe. This is one of the island’s most charming corners, and a warm, special place for anyone seeking peace on Marmara Island. We’ll keep coming back. Much love 🪷

We had a lovely three-day break as a group of women, and the staff made it a wonderful trip. Breakfast is brought to the table rather than served as a buffet; the homemade jams and other food were delicious, and the view from the terrace is breathtaking. Breakfast and dinner are usually served on that terrace, where you can also watch the sunset. The hotel has a private beach right in front. The water is crystal clear, and though there can be a little seaweed now and then, it didn’t bother us. It’s mostly sandy, so I didn’t need my usual water shoes. The hotel is about a 3-5 minute walk from the Ido ferry terminal, which makes it central. The island seemed to be mostly visited by families, and we didn’t run into any foreigners. Mr. Hamdi, the owner, is kind and focused on guests’ needs. Our room was a good size, with plenty of wardrobe space, a balcony, clotheslines, and clothespins. The air conditioning and hot water worked very well, and everything seemed thoughtfully arranged. The sea-facing rooms have a superb view. Thanks to everyone for such a pleasant stay.
