Grand Merpond Otel

The place was worn and dirty. We found an old sock under the bed, the room carpets were dirty cream, there was a half-drunk bottle of water, and the fridge looked as though it hadn't been cleaned since it was new. We only stay in hotels now and then for a bit of comfort, including air-conditioning. We're cycling around the world with bikes and panniers, and at 9 pm, packing up and looking for somewhere else wasn't realistic when we needed sleep. We would've been more comfortable in our tent. The first room had an air-conditioning control unit hanging off the wall and it didn't work. In the second room, the unit had at least been taped to the wall and seemed to work, so we accepted it and went out for the evening. When we got back, it showed an error. They offered us a third room with the same error. Reception then said the air-conditioning doesn't work in most rooms, something they hadn't mentioned at check-in. They said we could get a refund if we didn't want to stay. There are cheaper, better hotels on the same street. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

The manager was nice and moved me to a suite after I complained at reception. Still, this is a really old hotel that needs maintenance. The air-conditioning and refrigerator didn't work, and the toilet door was broken. I stopped in Marzifon on the way from Istanbul to Trabzon because I was tired. I wouldn't recommend stopping there, though. It's a small village without nice places nearby.

We paid 2800 liras for one night and ended up sleeping in the car, with the heat still getting to us and the morning leaving us freezing. There weren't even the basic amenities. A lot of money for nothing.

A very good place to stay while traveling. Korey was polite, helpful, and supportive. I'm very grateful for how he treated me and my family.
