Royal Heights Apartments

We spent a week in Whelk 12 in June. Only on our last day did we discover mold under the bed in the sleeping room and inside the wardrobe. Our kids had slept in that room with us the whole week. Please be careful.

The pool at Turquoise was a big hit with the kids, so we spent most of our days there. It has slides, a playground and mini golf, and the staff were friendly. The food and drinks were excellent, and the pool felt clean and safe. Royal Heights, Flamingo country club and Turquoise are sister resorts, so guests can use the facilities at all three. For a quieter swim, Royal Heights has an infinity-style pool with plenty of loungers. Our base was Oyster 31, a ground-floor apartment with a small garden, patio and lovely views across the bay. It felt like home, with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, proper iron, TV, DVD player and films for the kids. The place was airy and clean, with a spacious open-plan living area, modern kitchen and big dining table. There were two bedrooms, a main bathroom and an en suite with a shower. The complex is on a steep hillside, but our apartment was near the top and close to the neighboring resorts. There’s a large supermarket a couple of minutes away on foot, plus bars and restaurants within walking distance. A few charming fishing villages are around 15 minutes away by taxi. Bodrum takes about 30 minutes by car, though the bus that passes the resort is a good option since taxis can be pricey. The resort is only about 15 minutes from the airport, handy when traveling with kids. Arriving in daylight gives you a great view of the bay from the gated entrance. We wanted a peaceful Turkish holiday away from busy resorts, and Royal Heights suited us really well. We had a fantastic time and would stay again. It’s quiet, but there’s still plenty for children to do.

Really awful. It’s isolated and quite dirty. The beach is terrible, with broken sunbeds and a broken diving float. Stingrays swim along the shore, which is amazing to see but means you can’t swim.
