Salonika Suites

*Review from October 2018* The breakfast was a real surprise: unlimited juice, tea, or coffee, followed by a huge platter with sweet and savoury food and fruit, enough for six people, let alone two. Our junior suite was magnificent and huge, with lovely decor and its own hot tub. The bathroom was enormous too, with twin basins and a big rainfall shower. They’d thought of everything, including a free toothbrush, shaving kit, iron, and ironing board. There were two lovely little balconies with great views of the paragliders. We’ve stayed in boutique hotels in many countries, and these suites are a step ahead. You can just bring yourself and your clothes. Service was second to none, and the sunbathing area looked lovely. We couldn’t wait to try the comfy sun beds the next day. What a beautiful little place. We’ll definitely return with family and friends and tell people about this special place. The sea is nearby, which sounds nice, but our stay was far from relaxing. There were dozens of ants, possibly more, crawling over the bed, pillows, sheets, and even into our luggage. I spent the night brushing them off and couldn’t sleep properly. It raised serious concerns for me about hygiene and cleanliness. The air conditioner stopped working several times overnight, leaving the room hot and humid. The heat made it impossible to sleep, and the front desk told me to cut the power for a while and restart it. I had to get up every hour to turn it back on. When I reported the problems, they said compensation wasn’t possible because I’d already checked in. That seems odd, since how would a guest discover these issues without staying the night? We also heard that another guest had reportedly lost over 100,000 Turkish lira in cash at the hotel, which raised a serious question about safety and security. Between the bugs, broken air conditioning, poor hygiene, and dismissive service, I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Service was the slowest I’ve ever experienced, and the sushi was terrible. We ordered Philadelphia sushi, tempura roll, and mixed pizza, then waited more than 25 minutes. The Philadelphia sushi arrived warm, with very strange rice that seemed either just boiled or simply bad. The tempura was a disaster, with old avocado and shrimp. The pizza came last, and Migros could make a better one. The dough was the worst I’ve ever seen. It looked like a frozen pizza that had been kept for two months and reheated twice. Even getting the bill took ages. I swear I wish we’d left without paying, because it wasn’t worth it. Don’t recommend this place to anyone.

The hotel grounds are beautifully designed, and the rooms have a luxurious feel. It seems like a great choice for couples or groups of friends, especially outside the season when the city isn’t as crowded as it gets in summer.
