I loved waking up to the smell of fresh bread. Breakfast was freshly made and tasty, and there were comfortable little spots around the house and a porch where you could sit quietly. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Our host and his family were so welcoming, always nearby with tea and biscuits and ready to help. I was especially struck by his modest, polite manner. The house is a beautiful restoration in Safranbolu Ottoman style. I had the spacious third-floor room, with natural light and a view of town. It was once a special room for the family elder, with a private panel and a lovely sun-patterned wooden ceiling. The host said UNESCO rules mean this room goes to the youngest person in each tour group, so the building’s value is passed on☺️

The couple running the place were incredibly helpful, and breakfast was both plentiful and delicious. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with furniture that had a real history behind it. The lovingly restored Ottoman house has its own parking, a patio, and a large covered patio, all just a stone’s throw from the town center. We loved the town too. It’s a lovely place to wander around and let your worries fall away.

Akbulut Konak is a peaceful, beautiful historic home, carefully preserved and exceptionally clean. Our room was cozy and comfortable, and the Turkish breakfasts each day were amazing. But what we’ll remember most is how warm and kind the family who runs it is. It really felt like home, and we wished we could have stayed longer. If you’re visiting Safranbolu, stay here. It’s the best :)
